Help Us in Reaching the Furthest Behind. Budget 2024 a call to action on Conflict, Climate, Hunger

CBM Ireland joins in supporting Dóchas members on calling on the Government to significantly increase Overseas Development Aid (ODA) in the Budget to help tackle the triple crises of conflict, climate and hunger ravaging countries in the Global South. Which amongst its recommendations is that the Irish Government fulfill its longstanding commitment of spending 0.7% of GNI on ODA by increasing the ODA budget in 2024 by €305m.

There are three key areas which need to be addressed if we are to truly move towards a sustainable and equal world for all, they are conflict, climate and hunger.

Dóchas members and their partners, with their significant experience and expertise, are supporting communities to strengthen their own resilience to shocks and crises, to address their own development needs and to realise their rights.

The collective strength of Ireland's NGOs is a valuable resource that serves to support and further Ireland’s global footprint. Ireland stepped up to increase funding in response to the spiralling crisis in the Horn of Africa in 2022, and it is vital we do not step back now.

More information about the campaign is available on the Dóchas website, including how to get involved in reaching out to local TDs with the video and messaging: Dóchas | Pre-Budget Submission 2024 (dochas.ie)

We are calling on the Irish Government to show leadership through global initiatives to achieve goals on hunger and sustainable food systems in Budget 2024.
