When Nakisinde was 1, her father noticed something was wrong. “I noticed that she had a squint in her eyes.” He worried, because each time he would put anything in front of his little girl, like food or a doll, she didn’t notice anything there. He also saw something in her eyes. She could barely see.
Nakisinde is the youngest of 7 children. Her parents live in an old house far from the main road and the market. They work on other people’s land for a fee that barely sustains their family. Some days, they don’t earn anything at all.
“My daughter’s eyes have held her development back. I see she is affected a lot right now by light. Nakisinde presses her eyes hard as if there are things in her eyes.”
You see, in the developing world – in countries like Uganda, where Nakisinde lives –many babies are born with cataracts. These cataracts are the leading cause of treatable blindness in children worldwide.
€114 could pay for a child like Nakisinde to have cataract removal surgery. That’s all that was standing between her blindness and worsening poverty for her family.
Your compassion is the gift so many children like Nakisinde are waiting for. Please, will you give today to give a child the precious gift of sight?
