Leave a Legacy of Sight and Hope
Why Leave a Legacy?
A gift in your Will is one of the most powerful and generous acts you can make in your lifetime. It ensures your values live on—and allows CBM to continue bringing hope, dignity, and sight to the world’s most marginalised people.
More and more of our supporters are choosing to leave a gift to CBM. These legacies are transforming lives long after the donor is gone—funding sight-saving surgery, inclusive education, and vital rehabilitation services in the world’s poorest communities.
Your legacy will stand as a testament to the compassion and humanity you’ve shown throughout your life.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a legacy gift?
A legacy (or bequest) is a gift in your Will to a charity. You can leave CBM Ireland a percentage of your estate, a specific cash sum, or a particular asset like property or shares.
Why should I consider leaving a legacy gift?
Legacy gifts are deeply meaningful and cost nothing in your lifetime. They ensure your support continues, offering long-term stability and sustaining CBM’s mission.
What are the types of legacy gifts?
Residuary gifts: A percentage of what’s left after loved ones are cared for.
Pecuniary gifts: A fixed cash amount.
Specific gifts: An item such as property or shares.
Do I need a solicitor?
To ensure your Will is valid and correctly worded, it’s best to use a qualified solicitor—even for simple updates or adding a codicil.
Can I add CBM to an existing Will?
Yes. You don’t need to rewrite your entire Will—you can add a codicil, a short legal note that includes your gift.
What if circumstances change?
You can update your Will at any time. A codicil works well for minor changes, but a full rewrite may be advisable for major life events.
Are legacy gifts taxed?
Gifts to registered charities like CBM Ireland are exempt from inheritance tax. If you leave at least 10% of your estate, the inheritance tax on the remainder may also be reduced.
Can I leave gifts to multiple charities?
You can update your Will at any time. A codicil works well for minor changes, but a full rewrite may be advisable for major life events.
Should I tell CBM?
While it’s not required, we’d love to know. Letting us know helps us plan for the future and thank you personally.
Can I specify how my gift is used?
Yes. If you'd like your legacy to fund a specific purpose (e.g., eye surgery or rehabilitation), please contact us to discuss it. This helps ensure we honour your wishes.
