This is Samjhana and Anshu’s Story

A DAILY STRUGGLE

Samjhana (10) and her little brother Anshu (6) live in a remote village in Nepal many miles for the nearest hospital. For years, their world slowly faded into darkness due to congenital cataracts.

Samjhana struggled to see her schoolbooks; Anshu couldn’t even recognise his mother’s face. Their home, a humble mud-and-bamboo shelter, was filled with love but also uncertainty.

A FUTURE OF DARKNESS

Their mother, Sushila, was devastated. “I never imagined my children had cataracts,” she shared. “I thought they would always be able to see.”

The family had already borrowed money for their eldest daughter’s eye surgery, and another operation seemed out of reach. But without surgery, Samjhana and Anshu’s future would be trapped in darkness.

Because of the generosity of people like you, Samjhana and Anshu could now make the long trip to the hospital for life-changing cataract surgery.

A Brighter Future

After their operation, their bandages were carefully removed. Samjhana blinked as light flooded her vision, and the first thing she saw was her mother’s tearful smile.

Anshu, once hesitant and withdrawn, looked around in wonder before reaching for his sister’s hand—seeing her clearly for the first time in years.

Their mother wept with joy: “My children can now see the world. Thank you for your kindness.”
