Your support changes the lives of children living with disability, meet Cathleen, Kevine and Edward
Did you know? If you give €250 or more to CBM in a calendar year, your donation could be worth 45% more.
Three-year-old Cathleen from Tanzania received the surgery she urgently needed to restore her sight
Cathleen, a very social little girl, wanted to play with other children and to be where the action was in her hometown of Arusha, Northern Tanzania. She’s inquisitive, like most three-year old’s, and independent. So, when mother Frimina started keeping her inside, Cathleen started to deflate.
Cathleen started to go blind when she was about two. “She would constantly crash into things and fall”, says mother, Frimina. The outlook for Cathleen’s sight was bleak. Millions of children around the world are needlessly blind because they can’t get simple treatment.
With your help, Cathleen was given the life-changing surgery she so desperately needed.
Surgery to give sight to a blind child costs just €105
Because of people like you, children with disabilities living in the poorest places are no longer left behind
7-year-old twins, Kevine and Edward, from Uganda, have a metabolic condition that causes abnormal bone growth.
“When they were about one and a half years old, their legs started bowing,” their mother, Justine, told CBM.
Children living with disabilities in Global South countries, like the twins, often don’t get the healthcare they need. The distance to medical facilities is too great, or hospitals simply aren’t equipped.
We work in the world’s poorest places to prevent and treat conditions that cause disability, and to enable people with disabilities to access the medical care that they need.
Thanks to the generosity of CBM donors like you, Kevine and Edward had corrective surgery at the CoRSU Rehabilitation Hospital in the Buganda Region of Uganda and can now walk free from pain.
In countries where CBM works, people with disabilities face discrimination and are often excluded from their communities. We’re working to build a more inclusive world. Together, we can ensure that no one is left behind.
