CBM Ireland is an international Christian development organisation, committed to improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the poorest countries of the world.

The who

CBM is founded on Christian principles, and is the only international charity in Ireland dedicated to improving life for people affected both by extreme poverty and disability, whether physical, sensory, intellectual, congenital, developmental or acquired.

Christian Blind Mission was founded by Ernst Christoffel in 1908 to help blind children in Turkey and Iran. Over the last 106 years this has blossomed into CBM International, a worldwide network of eleven organisations working in 73 countries.

CBM Ireland is a fully registered Irish charity with the Charity Registration Number: 14987.

CBM Ireland was set up in 2002 and is based in Co. Dublin.

The why

Without CBM, millions of people with disabilities living in extreme poverty would be completely on their own, and would have no one to help them.

We do this work because in situations of extreme hardship, during wars, famines, droughts and natural disasters, people with disabilities are always at the back of the queue. They are the world’s most vulnerable people.

Today, CBM is the only international organisation in the world dedicated solely to helping people affected by poverty and disability. Especially people affected by:

·Blindness and vision impairment
·Physical mobility disability
·Maternal safety and birth related disability
·Restricted access to education to disability
·Disabilities caused by war or natural disasters

The how

The CBM approach is to help people through a network of Community Based surgeons, doctors, nurses, rehabilitation specialists, midwives, teachers, trainers, clinical staff and field workers drawn from the communities in which they work.

We also work in partnership with leading organisations and hospitals on the ground in the locations where we work. Organisations that share our passion for helping people with disabilities, irrespective of race, gender or religion.

Our field workers and partners operate under incredibly difficult conditions due to civil wars, drought, famine and natural disasters. Without your support, thousands of people with disabilities would have no one to help them.

Last year, CBM supporters - people just like you – helped more than 30 million people around the world through life-changing donations.
