Have you ever wondered what it feels like to be blind or have a visual impairment?

CBM supported World Sight Day in 2009 by giving supporters the chance to find out for just three minutes, by taking our "CBM White Cane Walk."

Equipped with special simulation glasses and a white cane, you're invited to find your way around our walking course solely by means of touch and your other senses.

The CBM White Cane Walk visited Grafton Street in Dublin and Patrick Street in Cork in October 2009.

Our CBM Information Truck was on hand, where people learned more about the work CBM Ireland is doing to treat people in the developing world with Trachoma, River Blindness and Cataracts. Members of our team were there to talk about the many ways we're helping children and adults to cope with blindness, visual impairments and other disabilities.

Blindness is a reality for an estimated 45 million people around the world. And for 80% of them, their condition could have been avoided.

World Sight Day on Thursday the 8th of October is an international day of awareness organized by VISION2020 to focus attention on the global issue of avoidable blindness and visual impairment. And CBM are wholehearted supporters.
