CBM Worldwide
Where CBM works, both with local partners and in an advocacy and fundraising role, to make the developing world more inclusive.
Global Programme Strategy
In 2015, CBM, together with its 418 partner organisations, supported 650 programmes in 63 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.
To implement its plans, CBM has an overarching Global Programme Strategy (GPS), with the following main aims:
- To provide Regional Offices with clear guidelines for the development, formulation and implementation of Regional and Country Programme Plans
- To provide the CBM Family priorities and standards for coherent programme and fund-raising strategies
- To enhance the profile of CBM by providing external stakeholders (major donors, Alliance Partners, etc.) with relevant programme information
Geographical prioritisation
Approximately 2.5 billion people live in the 50 poorest countries of the world. At present CBM engages in most of these 50 countries. Engagement is considered on a case-by-case basis, taking into account factors such as population and political stability.
If fast developing countries with significant populations of people living in poverty and high prevalence of disability are included (e.g. China, Brazil, Mexico) then the total population of priority countries for CBM increases to almost 4 billion people.
There is also a rationale to stay involved in countries which provide a regional resource partner for priority countries, and countries which provide specific opportunities for large designated fund-raising.
The criteria used for the prioritisation are:
- Countries with severe poverty - 50 poorest countries by HDI (Human Development Index)
- Countries with a large population of poor people (e.g. China)
- Countries with a high prevalence of under-served disability (e.g. conflict)
- Countries with a resource centre for other countries
- Countries with importance for significant designated fund-raising
