Step by step: help a child to walk

Ringdan was born with only one foot. And that was a clubfoot with three missing toes.
 
Ringdan’s mother – her name is ‘Fortunate’ – loves her son as fiercely and as unconditionally as you or I would love our own children. As any mother here in Ireland would love her son.
 
In fact, all she could do was love him.
 
You see, Fortunate and her husband are subsistence farmers, barely surviving in an extremely poor and remote part of Western Uganda. They grow what they need to eat with their own hands. And that’s all they have. They have no actual money.

And the idea of being able to help Ringdan – help him so that he could one day walk and move about on his own – was completely beyond their financial means.

There was no way Ringdan could go to school. No hope for him to learn to read or write. His future seemed bleak. But then they heard something that must have seemed like a miracle to them.

An outreach team from a CBM funded hospital in Entebbe was visiting their small village, and told them that Ringdan could have surgery, a prosthetic limb for his right leg, corrective surgery for his club foot, and follow up physiotherapy too.

In short, they told them that Ringdan would walk… for the very first time.

And this miracle would happen at no cost to them… because of the kindness, compassion and generosity of amazing people like you.
