A look back at 2013

As 2014 gets underway, and CBM Ireland prepares its plans and activities focused on improving the lives of people with disabilities living in the poorest countries, it is always important to reflect back on the activities and events of 2013.

CBM while predominantly working overseas also works in Ireland to influence policy on inclusive development. Progress made in 2013 in our overseas work and policy change at home are highlighted below.

In our overseas work in partnership with CBM International, we:

*Helped children caught up in the violence in Goma, many of whom who were left to fend for themselves
* Saved people from the horror and agony of River Blindness
* Saved children from from blindness caused by Trichiasis
* Dispatched urgently needed medical equipment to the Democratic Republic of Congo's civil war zone
* Helped children take their first steps
* Performed Club Foot procedures for children

Others areas we worked in overseas included Syria and the Philippines in response the Typhoon, and also the continuing humanitarian need in Syria

At home in Ireland we:
* Chaired the Dochas Working Group on International Development and Disability which works to promote inclusive development in Irelands overseas programmes
* Welcomed the the Irish governments new policy on International Development - 'One World, One Future' and its emphasis on disability
* Launched a policy document on Achieving Global Disability Inclusion
* Organised along with partners a learning and sharing conference with USAID and the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs on inclusive development
* Participated in the High Level Meeting on Disability and Development at the UN

2014 will be a busy year for CBM, and we look forward to working with our partners overseas and also in Ireland to continue improving the lives of persons with disabilities in the poorest countries.
