To mark World Humanitarian Day this year, we are putting the spotlight on our humanitarian heroes- CBM staff as well as partner organisations in the field, all working relentlessly to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities in the poorest countries of the world.
What is World Humanitarian Day?
World Humanitarian Day falls on 19 August every year. On this fateful day in 2003, 22 aid workers lost their lives in a bombing at the UN headquarters in Baghdad. Since then this day is observed to honour all people who have given their lives to humanitarian service, as well as to celebrate humanitarian work around the world.
World Humanitarian Day 2014
This year the UN joins hands with humanitarian aid organisations to launch a campaign celebrating Humanitarian Heroes around the world - people from all walks of life who have committed their lives for the betterment of society.
The majority of CBM staff is employed in various programmes in the field all over the world. CBM humanitarian workers put their lives in grave danger at times by continuing our work in conflict or disaster-prone regions to ensure the smooth implementation and running of our work.

This year we at CBM would like to highlight our humanitarian heroes and our partner organisations working in remote villages in various countries- from Africa to the Philippines. They are our heroes, committed to their work and driven to achieve our mission.
A common thread runs through the stories we have highlighted- the will and passion to contribute to global humanitarian efforts. CBM salutes these heroes on World Humanitarian Day!
